1995 23 WAC Head

Postby sfcretnewton » Fri Mar 20, 2020 8:46 pm

So I finally finished working on the boat to get it everything running, however the head does not seem to be working. When I hit the switch where the TP goes I can here the pump working. When pumping the handle it does nothing. Is the WC 1460-C worth trying to get a kit for or just better to replace. I have heard they were the cheapo heads so if replacing the whole thing what would be a good bolt up replacement. The wife has a teeny tiny bladder so ya know if I wanna go I gotta get this thing working!

Thanks in advance for any help!

If you can find a kit that's the most economical way get a working head, but an almost 30year old head might need more than a kit so best coarse of action is take it apart and see what it's going to take first

I think you have the WC head mate. It wasn’t really a cheapo unit as WC is a quality company. It just that your setup was cheapo compared to using an electric toilet. It sounds like the rubber plunger on the end of pump handle rod is dried up and not holding suction or it could have come off the end of the rod if the handle is too super easy to pump. Manual heads still being made and are about a third the cost of an electric head not to mention the wiring. So like you say a simple bolt up replacement is the way to go if you don’t mind the pumping. You can probably get a rebuild kit, but it is a pretty disgusting job. I would not put any time or money into a 30 year old head. Since you don’t know who has been sitting on it for the last 30 years, I think your wife would appreciate something brand new and clean!
The pump you hear running is probably the macerator trying to pump out the holding tank and is nothing to do with the operation of the head. They are troublesome too so it is good that it works.

Appreciate the replies. Found out because of you all found the plunger had come loose on the pump handle. I replaced it, bolted it up and bam...it works which surprised me on such an old head. It looked a little rough but some gloves and cleaning stuff and looks good as new now anyways LOL. I figure I burned enough crap in Iraq this wasn't near that bad LOL. I appreciate the advice!!!

for overboard discharge when I'm way out is there a y valve or anything? The intake seacock was easy to find but no luck on anything else and can't find a dang plumbing diagram.

I don't think that set up has a Y valve, that said as long as the waste pump out cap is on it should send it to the thru hull and overboard

okay appreciate it. Guess something is fouled up lol. Its not pumping overboard and the cap is on and can hear the maceration working. I'll just stick to the ease of the pump out station when getting bait lmao.
