Drain holes on wellcraft martinique 3200

Postby MichaelJ1969 » Sun Jun 27, 2021 8:38 pm

I have a 1994 Wellcraft Martinique 3200 in recently bought from my uncle. I’m wondering what the drain holes on the bottom of the boat near the water pick up? Do they need to be plugged and what are they for??

No. 1 looks like a 3/4” intake, most likely for a head. No. 2 is a high speed intake used to provide cooling water, engine related. No. 3 appears to be a paddle wheel transducer for knotmeter. Does it spin freely? I don’t think any of these are drain holes. Do not plug anything as all these penetrations will have a purpose. I assume from the pictures, I am looking at red anti fouling bottom paint. A boat does have many drain holes, but they are always above the water line. Inspect the bilges and engine room and try to visualize these openings from the inside so you can understand their purpose.

Thank you for the info. Yes the paint is a copper color antifouling paint. I knew the 2nd pic is water pickup but wasnt sure of the two others. The 1st pic does that hole pick up fresh water for the toilet is that what youre saying? im assuming its a one way valve? He never had either plugged but was hoping it wasnt to do with anything in the front hull.

Well from the picture, that is typical of what a toilet intake looks like. However some boats use a toilet intake that comes from the fresh water tank. Of course, I cannot tell that. But you need to look in the bilge to find the other side of that thru hull and see what it is used for. Whatever it is used for, there must be a working seacock. That is a 90 degree turning valve. So if it is no longer being used for anything, you don’t have to plug it, just close the seacock.

It would not be a one way valve.

Ones for the toilet, ones for the a/c and ones for the gen. all are intake thru-hulls

there is a holding tank for waste. Would the toilet one suck water in? There is no a/c on the boat or generator

Yes, it could. So there are three possibilities for picture no.1. First, that is indeed the toilet intake and it does suck water in. Second, a conversion was made to intake toilet flushing water from the fresh water tank. Many boaters have done this conversion as it reduces odors in the bowl. So the thru hull intake has been abandoned in place. Thirdly, the boat toilet was most likely always plumbed from the fresh water tank, and we don’t know what that little thru hull is for.

It is hard to say what setup you have without looking at. Does the hose coming off the thru hull and seacock appear to be the exact same one going into the toilet?

Also find out if there was a generator on it at one time, most of those came with a gen. and if you don't run them enough they stop working and much like my 270 they just remove the gen rather than fixing it
