Two floor wells on Wellcraft walk-around fishing boat

Postby Walk-around » Sun Aug 11, 2024 5:31 am

Wellcraft walk-around fishing boat has two floor I'm not familiar with. I imagine they are for fish, and pack ice around them? There is one small drain hole and one larger hole off to the side??
Thank you for any information.

Since you didn't note specific year or model, I can't look them up to determine for-certain how they were originally configured from build... they could have been plumbed out in several different ways.

If they were configured for 'live well', the might have seawater pickups and circulator pumps... some got fitted with aerators for freshwater catch, or baitwell use. I'm not a fisherman nowdays, but I do know some who do freshwater fishing, but need to pass through brackish and salt to get into their spots. If they were just doing saltwater, they could keep their catch alive inside a well with the salt around, but if you have freshwater catch in a live well, and flood it with saltwater, they won't be 'alive' for long, hence the plumbing situation.

How YOU choose to use them is a different story- as long as you don't do something incompatible with the existing plumbing (like pound ice into one of the plastic fittings and smash it), you'll be fine.

Best thing to do, is check under the other covers, look for valves, pumps, pickups and discharges, and see how they're plumbed. If there's pumps, look for the control switches... all this will tell you what they CAN do.

As for filling with ice... they're probably not 'insulated', save for foam injected in as flotation... you may wind up with cold feet (literally) but if it's a hot day fishing, you might like that.

2002 Wellcraft walk-around is the year and model.
There is a live well starboard side behind the steering seat, and the fresh water flow jet pump will either fill it or I can devert the water to a garden hose wash down hose, via two way valve.
I see no other valves or pumps....
