Swim platform

Postby FallsWellcraft » Thu Mar 04, 2021 7:07 pm

Hey guys, I have a 1986 wellcraft Nova XL23 I wanna redo the swim platform as I feel it's very narrow and make one less longer.... The current one is about 78 by 16 looking to do 78x 22 possibly 24.... So my question is what type of wood would you guys go with I know teak is the industry standard however I'm not looking to spend that much whatever would I plan on using will get several coats of a sealer to help protect it I'm not looking for it the last 10 plus years maybe a few seasons is fine and dandy for me. I was leaning more towards pine as it's the cheapest and I found some really good quality cut pieces no knots in the whatsoever....... Also consider using oak however it's seems to be More heavier. Here is the lumber I need

1x4x8....need..3
1x3x8....need..5
1x2x8....need..9

What would you guys recommend

Welcome Aboard, A friend of mine had an 86 Nova and it had a teak swim platform on it and if I remember right it was 24 inches(cause there was plenty of room to walk past someone while going to get a cold beverage) Anyway there are a lot of fiberglass ones out there that would probably work for you and I would start by trying to find one used say at a marine salvage yard or someone parting something out. Wouldn't need to be Wellcraft part but something you could adapt and refinish.
