Does anyone know what this is in my bilge? It has one wire going to it

That looks like the sending unit for an Impulse depth finder. That is coaxial cable. Probably original to the boat in 1987. Is it still in use?

That’s where my mind was headed because nothing else made sense. It has a depth finder on board it just doesn’t work, I’ll probably get a new one. Thanks for the insight!
