What size prop

Postby Robjoe237 » Mon Sep 11, 2017 9:31 pm

I have a 1997 wellcraft 210 coastal with a 1997 200 hp johnson ocean running outboard I don't know if I'm running the right prop. At WOT I'm running almost 7000 rpm and my speed is about 38 mph I can't stay on plane under 5000 rpm I'm new to boating and the money in gas I burn is crazy I no my motor is a gas hog but I feel I don't have the right size prop any help would be great thanks

I would try reducing the pitch of the propeller until you get manufacturer's rpm spec. - most likely 5500 - 6000 rpm at wide open throttle (WOT) generally rule of thumb is 200 rpm per inch of pitch. Be sure to verify this info - it's been a while since I have thought about props

twring23 is correct, 7000 rpm's is way to high on your top end, although I'm pretty sure that reducing the pitch will make your RPM's go up. Increasing the pitch will bring them down. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

You are grossly underpropped. What size prop do you have on now.
