New 1987 Wellcraft St Tropez Owner

Postby MrsT » Sun Aug 12, 2018 10:46 am

We just purchased a 1987 Wellcraft St Tropez 32ft. We’ve just graduated from our 180SSE CHAPPARRAL. We are from New Orlean, La. We bought this bought so all our family and friends can come for a ride. Any advice from anyone who owns this sane boat is greatly appreciated. There was no owners manual left with the boat, so we are left to this forum and “googling” for information about our new boat. We are excited to be apart of this forum! :usa:

Welcome aboard! I’m on the Northshore over at Oak Harbor Marina. My wife and I spend a lot time out on the lake. Hopefully we’ll see y’all around, we have a 26’ Coastal that’s Fighting Lady Yellow

So, just a question..., any helpful hints on changing the throttle cable? And we’ve got a light grinding/gear noise when the we engage the throttle... any suggestions?

Get the teleflex extreme. There is a code number on the existing cable that wiil tell you the correct length to order. Attach a string to the old cable and pull it out. I think it is easier to feed the new one from the helm end. Put some liquid soap on the new cable to help with the pull. The carburetor end is easy enough to change; the control end is a little trickier. Some small open end wrenches will help. Also check the shift cables at the transmission end. There is a little ball that should line up fully with the hole in the shift lever when in F or R position

I’m over on the pier closest to Marina Cafe. I’m currently out of my slip, been out since November (finishing up some winter projects) hopefully I’ll be back in the slip next week, after all this rain.

We’re over on our boat working on it. Trying to figure out why it’s overheating... think it’s the loose belt

thank you for the advice on the throttle
Cable! We got it changed!!! Whoop! Whoop! Now, if you could solve a problem. My husband says there’s no impeller on this boats two engines... we found the water pump but can not locate where the impeller would be. Funny thing my husband thinks it under the boat by the props ( hence it was in the lower unit in our I/o), I’ve owned inboard ski boats with mercruiser and pcm engines... where the heck is the impeller??? Can’t find any YouTube videos  :help:
