Wiring Help 88 210 Classic XL

Postby NEWB01 » Sun Jul 03, 2016 4:21 pm

:help: :help: :help: :help: :help: :help:

I have a 88 210 classic XL. I have issues with bilge pump and blower being intermittently inop. The bilge never engages, but the blower button on the panel clicks as if its registering my command, but the light does not come on nor do i hear the blower. The wiring is hideous. I would like to redo it all as my instrument cluster doesn't work well either. I have tried finding a manual for my boat but have had no such luck. I am looking for more info for my boat as to make this adventure less cumbersome. Can anybody help with a manual or any diagrams?

Hello,

Your bilge and blower are on it own separate circuit. They both need power and ground. I would start by flipping the switch to "on" and go the blower and check for power. If there is power there, then check for ground. If you have both (power and ground), then the blower is bad and needs to be replace. If there is no power at the blower, then I would go to the switch to check if power is at the switch. If there is power at the switch, then there is a break in the wiring from the switch to the blower. If there is no power at the switch, then check the fuse. Keep in mind that power enter the switch on one terminal and exit the switch on another terminal. Your bilge pump can be diagnose the same way. Remember, power comes from the battery, to a fuse, to a switch, to the device and back to ground.

As far as your gauges goes, The purple wire, which comes from the ignition switch, is power and connects all the gauges together. The black wire is ground and is also connects all the gauges together. When customers tells me they have problems with several gauges. I tend to look at a power problem or a ground.

Hope this help.

That age of a boat, check fuse connections. I have an `88 170 classic and had to remove all fuses and clean the connections with a scotchbrite pad. cured a lot of intermittent problems!, Just a thought
