Wellcraft 160 CCF Trolling Motor Install

Postby KirkComer » Thu Aug 01, 2019 10:26 pm

Wanted to share my Minn Kota Riptide Terrova I-Pilot Link trolling motor installation. If anyone is looking to install a trolling motor on their 160 ccf this may be helpful to them. Note: I had to make a homemade mounting plate for the install to work good. I used 1/2" aluminum for the top plate and 1/4" aluminum for the backing plate. Other thicknesses or materials could have been used... it was just scraps we had lying around. We did powder coat the plates using a harbor freight powder coating machine and used stainless steel hardware to mount it. Put a little clear flex tape between the homemade mounting plate and the hull just for a little protection. Anyway... hope this might help someone else with their install.

Thanks for the post. I have a 1992 20 fish and want to add a trolling motor. But I have a lewmar capstain and a bow roller. It will get crowded up there but some say it can be done. Why did you pick the MinKota and how is it working?

If you have to have an obsession a boat is good as any.

Well... you can see how often I get on this webite. Sorry for the late response Hydroholic. I picked the minn kota terrova because I can hook it to a hummingbird helix 10 depth finder. I've only been able to use the boat about a dozen times since the install in 2019 and I've still not took the time to connect the trolling motor to the depth finder.

The dozen times I've used the trolling motor, its worked fantastic. The spot lock held us solid in 2 foot waves while my wife was reeling in spot and perch two at a time until her arms got tires of reeling in fish. lol Others were drifting over the spot but the spot lock held us right in place. I also like using the trolling motor in a small river near my house. Just point it and it goes. Very easy to use with the remote.

I currently have the boat at a local machine shop getting fitted with some casting platforms and pedestal seats. 2025 is shaping up to be a year where I can get the boat out and use it a little more so pretty excited!
