Hard steering

The hydrolic steering on my 06 220 is hard to turn during docking . Any ideas

This mite sound dumb but have you checked the oil level or bleed the system? that's where I'd start

I was told if there was air in the system the steering wouldn't work at all. The wheel would turn but nothing would happen. Didn't sound right to me but this was from a boat mechanic

No, It's just like being low on power steering fluid in your car' seems to work ok until you have to make tight turns but it's not a belt drive hydraulic pump it's manual

Thank you for the info I'll try the fluid also I was told the bolt on the tiller could be to tight

Don't forget tube use a marine grease on any lube points

One other question does the motor turn all the way to the stops . There is about 2
inch's of space on the piston on either side. Doesn't seem like the motor turning far
Enough feels like it's hitting a stop. Could just be me?

I don't remember if there are actual stops on there but I will say the hydraulic ram will only go so far. Can't remember what the angle is but I'll see tomorrow when I go out to clean mine, they should all be fairly similar

OK sorry for the delay, they go to about a 45deg angle off the transom on my boat. I'll try to upload a pic but I'm not real sure it's going to work[img][/img
