New boat owner, old boat

Postby RLymburner » Tue Sep 01, 2020 5:08 pm

Picked up my first boat (91 Eclipse 186) for lake-use in Maine & Virginia, family recreation. Only had it out a couple of times, but loving it! Needs a new prop and fiberglass coating on bottom before I put it out again.

Doesn't look like these forums get much use so while you're glancing at this please share any thoughts on OEM propeller pitch? The boat has 3 - 14.25 diameter blades, but I cannot identify the pitch for a replacement prop.

Looking forward to learning how to maintain my boat and enjoy the boating experience.

Thank you for the welcome :)

Hoping someone chimes in, I'm hoping to go to a 4-blade prop for towing tubes/skiers but unsure proper pitch.

Those are useful, thank you. Neither had the sought after information online, but each provided phone numbers to help me find OEM prop. That’s seems to be my next step, thank you!

Usually the OEM prop is the best one for general purpose boating and a 4 blade doesn't do much for you, you should probably try it out first be making changes. Any local prop shop will be able to help you out with the pitch

I thought a 4-blade would provide quicker acceleration from a standstill. Boat seemed very slow trying to pull tubers/skiers out of the water and get to a plane. Is it just marketing hype? I was hoping to find a Wellcraft owner of similar boat to share their experience.
