1998 240 CCF Help!!! Fish Box Pump Problems!!!

Postby raymoiv » Mon Jul 27, 2015 12:10 pm

It.s been quite a journey but I am almost there. My last problem is finding this macerator pump that services the stern fishbox. I have accounted for every pump i have on this 1998 240 ccf except for the macerator pump. Would installing an access pie plate in the aft of the fishbox give me access to this pump wherever it is? Is this pump hung like my raw water pump and freshwater pump? Does is hang below the fishbox or to the side of it? Where could this macerator pump be?

If it were me;

Knowing that fires/explosions, sinking, and non-functioning drainage pumps - in that order - are bad, I'd go in the order below.

I'd check the wiring for the pump with the wires that get hot. Correct the wiring to current ABYC specs and make certain the fuse is properly rated for the pump. Hot wires often lead to fires/explosions. Also, incorrect gauge wiring, corroded wiring, etc., can lead to not enough current to run the pump, but because the current is flowing with resistance, you get the heat. (Remove power to the wiring and you can move to keep the boat from sinking below, then come back to this.)

I'd repair the bilge pump to make it automatic, at the least. Preferably I'd make it automatic (signaled) with a manual (on/off) override.

I'd trace the hose/s on your seized pump to see where they come from/go to. I'd also look for a strainer and a Y diverter.

Thanks for the response. But where is the pump? I can.t find the f'ing pump. At my stern there is the access hatch. Behind the hatch are my 2 batteries. Below the batteries is the shelf that supports the 2 batteries. That plywood shelf runs starboard to port, one continuous piece of wood. The only pump i could get at was the bilge pump, a non automatic pump. I could not find the float switch that used to activate this pump. You can.t see down into the bilge to even see the pump that I need working to pump out the deck fishbox. That.s the pump that also circulates the baitwell system. Adjacent to the bilge pump that I replaced is an aerator pump with one hose coming out of it. It's an attwood aerator 500. I never knew i even had an aerator pump. Not an issue for me at this time. Now those wires I described that heat up go to that pump that I cannot find because of the obstructed view I just described. That invisible pump clearly has an issue. Those wires I snipped and hooked up to the new bilge. The wires engage that pump from the switch on my center console and I plan to add a separate automatic pump at the end of the season. Those wires are cool as a sea cucumber. Clearly I have to modify that shelf, in other words, rip it out and replace it. Do you agree? It seems that Wellcraft built this boat around the pumps and to think that I sold a perfectly functioning mako 22 for this technological wonder. Any thoughts appreciated.

I have a 22 ft wellcraft walkaround. The fish well pump on my boat is located on the port side and the only access to it is through the rear deck access plate. You have to lie down on the deck and shine a light to the port side to see the pump. It is a PITA to change. On my boat both hoses connect prior to the pump so when one box empties the pump will draw air from that box and not pump out the other box. I use a rag to plug the empty box and continue to pump out the other box. Hope this info helps, good luck on the issue.

Were you able to find the fishbox pump for your 240 CCF? I am having the same problem on this vessel but cannot locate the pump either.
