Oil pressure alarm 1998 Martinique 3000 twin 5.7 merc

Postby bjt0307 » Mon Jul 17, 2017 11:01 pm

Port Engine stalled and high pitch alarm came on. No alarm lights lit. Engine would crank but not turn over. When engine runs it sounds great no pinging. Next day turned key and engine started up strong. Ran for couple minutes and turned off. 5 minutes later turned key and alarm came on and engine would just crank. The buzzing in alarm almost sounds like a short somewhere as it crackles in and out. My battery meter shows 16 on one and 12-14 on the other. I also noticed the oil pressure gauge on the engine that won't start is at 0-2 where when it starts its at 40. Could it be a bad battery, bad gauge, or something with the charger? What makes me think electrical is because the alarm breaks up and crackles and is not a consistent high pictch alarm. It just doesn't sound right. Plus if no oil pressure I would think engine would nock. I also had the same engine pulled to replace gimble bearing last winter but it ran great until I took a 20 mile trip up the river at around 3200 rpm. Besides a little tubing I putter around at 5-10 mph. After alarm came on and port engine failed I turned key off but alarm continued. I didn't want to shut other engine off until I got back to the dock. What's odd is alarm is on but no lights lit up red. I'll go down with volt meter tomorrow but I'm kind of stumped! Electronics on dash were also acting funny. Gps would not connect to Coordinates. Also noticed bilge switch is red no matter if switch is on or off. Everything hooked up in fuse panel has no issues its just the alarm from dash. Both engines sound strong when they initially start.

Maybe a loose grd. Wire , somewhere, back of mtr. On bell housing, since mtr was out, warning buzz is for oiL pres. Water temp, outdrive oil, sounds like grd. With your other issues acting weird, can u reach starter to see if wires are snug, good luck,

Hi bjt0307, did you ever figure out the issue? I have the same thing happening with my '98 3000 Martinique. I checked for loose wires as per goodday's post, (great suggestion) but everything seems snug.
