Problem with rub rails.

I have a Wellcraft 290 Coastal. Just power washed it and found tons of dirt coming out out from behind the rub rail.
Would it be a good idea to try and seal it, or would that just cause more problems. Any advice would be appreciated.

Maybe get dirt out, top of boat screwed together under rub strip, I had some leakage coming through in screws that lost there seal in my cabin, I resealed Screws and put in a new seal, what’s dirt from? Where docked from drive? Think would get dirt out so water etc runs on out

Thanks Goodday, are you talking about the screws that hold the rub-rail in? Dirt may come from washing or rain. Just worried if I seal the rub-rail I
might be sealing in moisture that would hurt it.

Easy enough to reseal, just pull clean it and the seam on the boat(You don't have to take it apart just check the screws) then if the rub rails in good shape put it back on with new sealer and make sure the screws get sealer. That's is on my project list for later this year , I to have some rain water leakage at the rub rail and a couple of portholes
