1997 wellcraft 240 coastal floor fishbox livewell conversion

Looking to convert fishbox to active live well for a few reasons.
The well doesn’t have an over flow so when it’s full the lid bobbles and lets my live squid a change to escape!
It’s a pain to insert hose to fill box so I figured why not convert to live well.
I figured I would install an aerator nipple from a new pump to supply water.
My concern with the overflow is the deck height in relationship to the water level.

Before I start spending $$$ and drilling holes has anyone tried this?

Not sure that would work well - kind of shallow and will have to be plumbed both in and out. Have you thought about a portable on the deck?
