I searched for an answer to my question but could not find it, so here goes. I’m looking at a 1997 Wellcraft Excel, and it is pretty much flawless except for the trim that runs down, across, and up the top of the transom. A section of the horizontal portion of that trim is broken off just to the left of the engine. The fiberglass doesn’t look like is delaminating, or pulling away from what looks to be wood, and it all seems pretty dry in that spot. The transom is solid through out, with no webbing of the gelcoat. The trim also has small cracks on the other side of the engine as well, but is not missing. Is this a problem? I’ve posted pictures of the trim.
Thanks. John.

Probably should come up with a cover on that, improvise something, rubber, vanilla cover if can’t find good original, keep that plywood from being exposed to moisture

An aluminum cap would also work just seal it or glue it on as to keep the water out

looks like a hard plastic cover to protect hull to deck joint. It must have gotten brittle over time and cracked at screw holes from stress. Some heavy object must have caught it and tore a section off. If you’re lucky enough to find the missing piece, I would just glue it back. I don’t think the cover was doing anything to seal the joint from water as it looks from the pictures to loosely applied with no evidence of caulking. I would replace it all. The plywood should be already sealed, but if not let it dry out and paint with epoxy resin. Look at Taco Marine website as they manufacture various rub rails and edge trim. I think a hard rubber edge would work.
