Wellcraft 2017 241 Rusty Screws on compartments

Postby Jcralph01 » Tue Jul 20, 2021 4:24 pm

I have a 2017 241 bay boat. I have noticed the screws on the boat compartments are rusting. These should be high grade stainless steel screws. Has anyone else had this issue?

Yes there stainless but there are so many grades of stainless and who knows what was used or available. Try contacting Wellcraft or there parent co. which I think is REC Holdings at this point in time. REC Holdings was acquired by Groupe Beneteau in 2017.

My experience has been that the screws / hinges / hardware etc. were not bedded properly. If properly bedded in marine sealant they will bleed rust. The proper sealant is a highly debated topic. I like 4000 marine, just my experience.

Check them with a magnet to see if they really are stainless.
