I am currently considering repowering my 99 Coastal 270. I am unsure of the weight limits that can be placed on the transom. I understand the boat is rated up to 450 hp but believe that calculation was based on 2 stroke motors.
Currently boat is powered by twin Johnson Oceanpros 150s. Considering the additional weight with 4 cycle outboards, what would be the weight
the transom is rated for. I am not sure if either the Yamaha or Suzuki I-4 200 hps would get up on plane but their weight is closer to what I am hanging now. Any knowledge or suggestion would be greatly appreciated.

I would check the weight of 1999 225 johnsons and try to stay around that. Also check that the deck scuppers and any other thru hull fittings wont be under water with the added weight. The best way to do this is figure out what your current motors weigh and add weight in the form of bags of play sand from home depot to see how the boat will sit at rest with the weight of the new motors. When your done return the sand. I removed twin 150s and went to a single 300 on my 2600. I dont go offshore and didnt want the maintenance of twins. If you have any questions you can PM me.

I do know of a guy who repowered a 2003 27 with yami I4 200s. He likes it.

Would be good but I am a little concerned how the transom would handle a large single motor.

I had to have my transom redone, engine well scuppers moved, holes from old twins glassed as well as the port side rigging hole. My F300 has been on there for 50 hours so far, solid as a rock.
