Repowering my 238 coastal

Postby SeaSickToo » Mon Apr 30, 2018 1:06 pm

I’m repowering my ‘96 238 coastal. I’m not sure what height the anti-ventilation plate should be. The bottom of the boat steps up at the transom. Do you set it to the bottom of the transom or bottom of the boat? I’ve also heard to set it just below the bottom of the boat and just above the bottom of the boat. Does anyone know the whats best and why?

Thnx for you help

Personally I'd start with the other motors were set. If your to low(deep) the boat will attempt to climb upward in the rear and push the bow in. If you go to high the props will pull air and cavitate at higher speeds.

I started with mine all the way down, and it is too low. Moved it up 2 holes, and it's much better.

Mine is a 1997 Excel 23, and may be a little different, but I think yours has the same step up in the back as mine does. I hope this helps.
