New owner used boat fisherman 180

Postby Panosp » Sat May 29, 2021 10:46 pm

Hello everyone new owner and member to the Wellcrafts,
NY located , recently purchased an 07 Fisherman 180 in great condition and can’t wait to get out and fish with the fam.

One thing I noticed, both deck anti skid pieces on top of the rod holder areas have cracked , I assume by people stepping on them while boarding.
Any idea if these parts exist for replacement ?

Picture attached.

Many thanks to all , and happy boating

Welcome Aboard, I assume you should be able to find those or something similar at any marine store or on the web but I've never looked

I have the same issue, both of mine are cracked at the mounting holes. I believe they are called gunwale (gunnel) covering boards. Seems like it's simply a poor design. I had planned on getting some king starboard AS and fabricating them myself until I found this company who will make them for me:

I think they are charging me $50 ea. + materials. They are local to me so I can take them the old ones so they can use as a template. Not sure they are the same size on your boat but if so there's an option for you. If your interested, get back to me and I'll give you the dims.

Thank you for the information. I will take some measurements and reach out! :captain:

So deep blue was a bust, I called a few times, they promised to call me back and crickets. I have company coming to town and needed a solution ASAP. After a bit of digging I found a similar company that does small jobs like ours. $100 per side including materials - but two week turn around and they want to keep the pieces as templates. We agreed that I would try to find a solution and if not I'd drop them off on Monday.
So I sourced some king starboard Friday night and started playing with it yesterday. After some trial, error, and cursing, I was able to fab nearly exact replacements costing only the materials $100. I havent cut the groves in it yet, but I plan to - I won't run them all the way across as it creates a week point in the corners.
If your not handy, buy the material and any carpenter can easily make these. I'm very much a novice and I had great results. The starboard cuts, sands, routes easily and better than wood. Best bet is to cut it close with a jigsaw then router it using the old pieces as the template. Route the middle with a 3/8 bit, remove the old caulk, screw the new ones down and your done. FYI, all four corners of mine were slightly different, so either they are not original or they were done by hand.

Pic attached with measurement. Good luck, I'd like to know how it goes.

Way to be creative  I think those lines are for rubber strips that get inserted into them just for traction, If the starboard you bought has a diamond pattern on it then there's your nonskid surface
