Converting to a Wellcraft owner. We really like the 3700 and I have seen a few engine options but the one we have found to be just what we are looking for has 7.4 Horizons V- Drive and not sure if that is going to be under powered. Looking to get on plane with ease with 6-8 people vs top end speed. Any thoughts?

Welcome Aboard, The 7.4L should be plenty of power but 6-8 people is a lot of extra weight(12-16 hundred or more pounds) weather or not your on plane you'll be lower in the water and probably be that guy everyone cusses at for the wake ( the more water that's displaced the larger the wake even at idle speed)

Thanks for the response CptBill, I should have been a bit more clear. It's us two adults and two kids. at times they like to bring friends. At this time I have a Regal 2760 with 4.3 Mercs and it's a bit tight and struggles to get on plane so time to upgrade

Well, I just picked up a 2000 2760 w/twin 4.3L but I'm taking the sx lower units off and putting duo props on and it should preform better. Your right but for me and the Admiral it's a good size for the coastal cruising we do. and buy the way if I still think it's under preforming I have a pair of 5.7L that will fit :-D

That should do it. I pondered the same thing a few years ago but never did it.
