New owner on England's Norfolk Broads

Postby w3L1w473r3d » Sat Dec 24, 2022 3:12 pm

So ... excited about my Wellcraft which was built somewhere between 1980 and 1990, now marina located on the river Ant.
My first task is to accurately Identify the boat and I hope some members will recognise the year and model from this description. So say a 21.5 foot in white with red trim sports cuddy cabin, it has the black painted windscreen frame with central hinged section and no curved glass. Wellcraft Luna Eclipse is black stencilled on the hull sides just to rear ends of side windscreens. What year made do you think?
I had to take delivery a couple of days before Christmas and in very wet weather so not the ideal time and I need to get the cockpit tent up pronto to protect her and dry her out as she's on hull stands on the hard after a 100 mile road trip from the previous owner. Quite a lot of work to get her in the water. Trim and upholstery refurbed and installed, a hatch and port side cabin door resealed and made good, steering and control gear installed, fibreglass outboard mount fabricated and incorporated in the transom/swim platform and some tidying and glass repairs to transom where the sterndrive has been removed and the transom entry filled, stainless steel rails re-fitted and my outboard fitted, before dropping her back in the water. Photos later as we make a little progress, but she is still a handsome vessel.

Where is the river Ant? North country, midlands? For starters read the serial number imbedded in the fiberglass transom, starboardside. That will give you the year of build. My guess is built in Sarasota, Florida in late 1980’s. That is when Wellcraft was in its heyday of cranking out boats of all sizes.

Thanks Billm. Norfolk is a county in England and the Broads are lakes formed from medieval peat diggings in a landscape that seldom reaches a height of 20 metres above sea level. It's an ancient landscape of slow meandering rivers usually less than 3 metres deep and rich in bird and other wildlife. We enjoy being on the water at a very leisurely pace so a stern drive gas gobbler is not for us, but the family cockpit area in an american sports cuddy is perfect for family days out on the broads and rivers. Meanwhile, sounds like you may need a good indexed atlas of the world....
