18SX Back to Back / Lounger setup?

Postby claude3rd » Mon Sep 11, 2017 8:26 pm

Hello to all . I'm a new user here on WBO. I have never owned a boat bigger than my little Coleman Crawdad with my 5hp 1975 Sears Eska outboard.

My in-laws bought a house on Lake Sokokis in Maine, so I started looking to buy a boat to run around the lake and take the kids water skiing. I came across someone selling their 1996 Excel 18sx and trailer, for $1,200. A day after a test run I closed the deal.

There is a soft spot on the floor under the captain's chair, which I will have to address, and I assume the damage is bigger than I can see and feel. When I pulled back the rug a bit, it looks like someone replaced the plywood and didn't even try to seal the wood and screws after.

Anyway, I need to replace the wood in the back to back passenger seats. I shouldn't have a problem with that, but I am having a hard time understanding how the seat attaches to the riser base. It looks like this came apart some time ago and the previous owner discarded some pieces and propped everything in place. I can see that the reclining feature uses some aluminum poles that slide into grooves to adjust the reclining angle. I can't see how this base is supposed to attach to the seats. Does anyone have some pictures of the setup? I have been on YouTube and Googling for hours.

Well, I figured it out using the rotted wood. Just in case someone else wants this info,
here are my pictures. Yes, it's not Maine plywood, it's scraps I had available. I reattached the vinyl using upholstery tacks.
