Inline fuel filter (is it needed)

Interested to see how many of you out there have an inline fuel filter before the Fuel/Filter water separator that is attached to the fuel pump.
*note I have a 270 coastal with a Volvo Penta Stern drive.
My concern is, why add another point of potential fuel starvation.

FW sep should be the first filtration into the system. Consider running a 2 micron racor. Then into the whatever filter is on/in the motor. I have on 3 different boats and nothing gets past it. Have a spare on board and the tools to change.

On our Larson w/twin 5.7 TBI's and VP duo-prop we run 10 micron fue/water sep. and 10 micro fuel filter. Never had a problem but that also could be where you buy fuel thing

@A1251 Your setup is exactly what I am thinking of doing. The current setup is a small inline fuel filter ahead of the Fuel pumps. The Volvo Fuel pump(s) housing has a screw-on water separator/fuel filter integrated into it. The thought of putting a lower performance/higher fail potential filter ahead of a higher performance/lower fail potential filter perplexed me. @CptBill, thanks for all your help and contributions to this board.
