Fuel Gauge and Sender

My gas gauge died. I know its either the gauge or the sender. Has anyone recently replaced either of these parts? I think I found the Faria gauge online but there are 2 different ones, one is part #GP7906 and the other is GP7906B. I am not sure what the difference is. Also, is there a specific sender or is a universal one going to work?I want to get both parts ahead of time so that once we have things torn apart I have everything I need. Thanks in advance for any advice. - Lee

More often than not it's the sender. There very easy to test, use a test light at the sender one wire is power, one is ground, If you have 3 wires the other is the gauge, Remove the ground wire and see if the gauge moves then use the test light between the ground wire and the tank. It shoul read about 1/2 that way. Yes you can use a universal sending unit
