I have a 19' 1995 wellcraft excel and I am having the darnedest time starting it! I thought you needed to prime in a few times but from I understand now, I just need to push the button and left the red handle to move the throttle forward a little and it should turn over but I get nothing!! I thought after you primed it a few times you would bring it back to neutral and start it that way?? what am I doing wrong??

Ok, Does it have an Electric choke? it's been a long time since I've dealt with a carb so here goes starting procedure used to be Push in the button on the shifter so your in a neutral position, pump the throttle a few times, and put it about 1/4 throttle, turn the key. If every thing is good it starts but there are a lot of reasons not to start. The basics would be spark plugs, Dist. cap. Rotor, carb that needs rebuilt, choke that's not working, bad fuel. There's a lot to check

yes that is it except for after you pump the choke a few times, when you say a quarter throttle are you saying hold the button again to get it to a quarter throttle??? that's the part that throws me off?? thanks for your replies!! I can't find any you tube videos on the proper way to start that, no elecrtric choke

Hold the button in and push the throttle forward, that puts the outdrive in neutral and sets the choke otherwise your just trying to start it at base idle with no choke. If you live near a marina or a boat dealership or even a fellow boat owner they might be able to help you out doesn't have to be the same model or brand all carbureted engines start pretty much the same way

I did get it to crank forward throttle but not all the way on but more than i've been able to do, I'm going to have a mechanic look at it next week because I have water I believe trapped under a small portion of the cuddy floor where you step down at
