Fouled Plugs On Evinrude E-Tec

I had taken my 115 E-Tec back for service after it would not turn over. It is a 2014 with less than 50 hours. The shop said the plugs were fouled due to the thermostat being stuck open and the engine running cold. Also stated the situation may have been caused due the motor not being run for a month. They replaced the plugs and said it is good to go. I had a buyer for the boat and lost the sale over this issue. I have no mechanical knowledge of outboards or anything else for that matter. Can anyone comment on the findings. Thank you.

If you are running regular pump gas with ethanol that could have been the culprit. 2stroke motors do not get along with ethanol.

That's a 10-4 on running pump gas, it's easy for a boat to set a month with a cpl. not so nice wkends, from some test shown it makes moisture, 10 gal. Of pump gas to me equals 9 gas 1 water, just my thought, won't put a drop in my boat ,

Do you have a separate water separator filter like a Racor inline before the primer bulb? That would eliminate it being a gas issue. Sitting a month wouldnt necessarily cause bad gas. E-tecs need the correct temperature to run correctly so it does sound like it may have been running cold. Have the thermostats ever been changed? 50 hrs on a 2 + year old engine inst very many hours as i put more than that on in one year so maybe they are correct.
