Checking oil

Postby Stanisv21 » Wed May 18, 2016 10:36 pm

I'm really quite at a loss as to how one checks the oil level in the oil reservoir in my V21 Cuddy. The situation is that the oil filler sits on top of the transom with a long flex hose leading down to the black reservoir perhaps two feet below the filler. Getting inside the transom to see the reservoir necessitates dismantling the rear bench which can be quite a chore. Even then the reservoir is black so there's no way of detecting the oil level by sight. Am I missing something really simple here? Nowhere in the boat's or engine's manual does it talk about how you check the oil level. Can someone please enlighten me? :usa:
