Trim problem

Postby Roscoe waterbug » Tue Aug 01, 2017 4:07 pm

Wellcraft Excel 21x 5.0 mercruiser engine. Trim on throttle on works to put trim down. Up trim does not function. Trim switch by gauges does work to put trim up.

Is this an Alpha drive? There are switches on the side of the drive (mounted to the gimbal where it pivots). I don't remember exactly because it's been years, but if they're not functioning correctly you'll have this exact problem.

Basically, the switch that says you're in the "trailering" zone (height) is probably made when it shouldn't be. You might get by with adjusting the switch (It's just a couple of screws) or you might need a new switch.

If you google this problem I'm sure a procedure for setting them will show up. I had a similar issue with my 470 Merc years ago.

Good Luck!

Here are some instructions on how to adjust it. I've heard that this website is a plethora of information for Merc owners.
