87 St Tropez

I have been drooling over a 87 St Tropez that I saw listed in my area Craigslist. It really looks to be super clean, and the owner wants to get the bottom painted before putting in his lake for me to see it. It is about 2 1/2 hours away from me so I also want to see it before its launched and in water at the same time, so I wait.(weather has not been conducive to bottom painting, boat is on stands at his place waiting) Has twin 350 Crusaders with 735 hours. My question is on the price. He is asking $16000. for it with no trailer.

I have been doing a lot of looking around while waiting to go see it. I have come across a 1996 Sea ray 290 Sundancer with a trailer for $15000. With the trailer, this boat would allow me to escape the $800. to $1200. yearly pull out/storage cost. If I could pull it out myself, I have an area at my boat club I could store it. I have seen a lot of other cruisers in the same/close size range much newer then his boat in the same price range.

Am I wrong in thinking the price for the boat should come in a lot closer to the $10000-$120000 range? I really like the pics and am anxious to see it, but I am starting to realize he has a very small market for the boat. What is your opinion of my thoughts?

How do I check to see if the stringers are wet/waterlogged? I mean the are wood wrapped in fiberglass and I can nopt for the life of me figure out how to tell if they are bad. I saw in one article a guy mentioned using a moisture meter. Would something like this read the moisture of the wood through the fiberglass? Any help or advice would be appreciated.
