2002 24 ft walkaround
I've been in the market for a walkaround and they're very rare around here.
Looking for some input regarding the boat. From pics, it looks like it has a very sharp deadrise. Planning on using the boat primarily on lake Erie so that's important. I went from an 18 degree Proline to a 20 degree Grady and the ride was night and day.
I've heard the Wellcraft 24 walkaround of this era has a bit of an issue with water backing up through the motor well into the cockpit floor. That has me a bit concerned, but I also heard there's a fix. With the transom wall, I'm sure there's some solution. What about keeping water out of the in floor fish boxes? I've never had a boat with those before.
Structurally speaking, is this a pretty solid hull? Thick lay up on the hull bottom and solid stingers and transom? I believe they went woodfree in 1998, though I've heard Aquasport continued to use balsa in the cockpit floor. Not sure if Wellcraft did the same. I think they were made in the same plant in Sarasota back then. But I may be wrong about that.
I've heard some don't like the walkway around the cuddy because it's not recessed. That doesn't bother me though.
Would the 200 hp be adequate power for this boat?
Any feedback / info you could provide would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

The only downside to splash guards versus the wall, is that the wall blocks outboard noise, so without it, your noise levels go up a bit when running, but I personally like the extra space it gives to the back of the boat. No issues with water coming in, for me...
