99 wellcraft 24 WA. 225 johnson

Postby Jeffreydespres » Sat May 29, 2021 9:21 pm

Hi all! I am wrapping up going through my newly purchased Wellcraft. Sealed hull/ deck separation @ bow, minor fiberglass repair, went through systems...mostly check out. Can't find forward bilge..it has fuse/ helm switch...but nothing and no evidence in cabin floor...guess I'm gonna chock it up to a no show and let er ride with verified aft bilge. Thinking I'll wire seccond bilge in rear port forward of aft bilge as backup.
I notice rod holder bottoms into battery compartment(gonna top plug).
I'm aware if the transom gate issue and will follow sealing and securing lower gate for those following sea drifting scenarios.
The motor would tilt properly but not trim. Actuating the lower switch would produce a click...but no action. I replaced the relay...but same same. After inspection of down wind wiring I noticed corrosion on the power out connection from relay plug. I cleaned er up with a scratch awl and fired right down as it should.

I'm ready to launch for first saltwater trial run.

Welcome Aboard. All my rod holders have a bolt going through them so the rods don't fall all the way through. Well craft has a way of hiding or at least making bilge pumps hard to get to, do you have a Fresh water tank? if so look there for the forward pump or under anything that's removable. Mine on my 270 is in the compartment with the fresh water compartment in the aft cabin

Hey Thanks... I think the water tank is forward of ice cooler on deck... Basically under passenger chair.
Bigger fish to fry... launched this morning. Found out fuel Guage doesn't read properly.... overfilled tank:(...fuel shot out vent. Must have leaked out of sending unit into hull. Gass in aft bilge I discovered when I pulled the plug after recovering..still on ramp.

Sat there cranking motor with no fire. Almost gave up...then found a sweet spot on shifter that kicked er off. Ran fine on the water... jumps right to a plane @ 4k rpm. Rae marine chart plotter worked great and took a cruise around Casco Bay.

No a bad first launch... but I'm gonna dig in on a new sending unit/ seal and rewire new Guage. Also gonna look at the shifter/ ignition wiring as well. Try to avoid being stuck.
