Fuel line question.

Fuel line question.

Good evening i have a wellcraft coastal 2800 1986 running twin 5.7L Mercruisers and have a question about a solenoid and a large steel ball towards the rear of the engine in the fuel line. Does anyone know what these are and what they do?

The last pic looks like some kind of sensor for determining fuel flow/rate use for an gph meter, the big ball on top I have never seen before
