2000 330 Coastal Windlass ground wire

Postby Coastal330 » Wed Sep 24, 2025 5:34 pm

Just acquired this boat 6 mod ago and have both 7.4s running.

I am trying to revive the windlass, I have 12.65v to windlass but when I jump contacts I get nothing, even when I go right to the windlass lugs. Tried a loadtester and it won't even read. I load tested the positive windlass wire from the battery switch panel by the stairs and it is good. I believe I have a bad ground connection but do not know where the black windlass ground terminates? Buss bar behind house panel doesn't seem to have that wire. I checked the batteries and they only have the large 0g batt cables, no smaller ground cables.

Anyone know where the windlass ground is landed?

Follow-up. The 2000 Wellcraft 330 coast with 7.4 Horizons has main 2/0 (I believe) ground wires coming from the batteries to the rear of the engine blocks. Both engines are grounded to each other. The picture shows (2) 4ga and (2) 14ga ground wires that that run forward from the engines that used non-tinned ring terminals that were corroded and broke off. I replaced the ring terminals with tinned connectors and reattached the wires (2nd picture). I load tested the windlass power and ground wires at the solenoid and it all checked out. Everything is in working order now, even the foot controls.
