Howdy, Maine guy here, looking at what might be my first boat: 87' 18' open bow.
Might go look at it tonight.
I've posted in the engine forum to ask a question there..
Thanks in advance for any help & advice I might get here

This is a boat I'm considering taking on as a project(my first...) and I appeal to the vast knowledge here...
"I have a 18.5ft 1987 Wellcraft with an open bow. It was a project boat that I dont have time for anymore. Made some progress over the years. I used to wakeboat on it as is until the alternator died on me.
I had it serviced last summer with Mansons Marine to try and fix the problem. They said there is an alternator kit that could be installed but it was about $700 and it would also need a new trim pump. "
I'm wondering what engine this is, as I see there are several that were offered for this year boat: I'm actually not even sure what the model is yet...
I might go look at it tonight

View the latest post Attachment(s) Hello...new boat owner!
Hello, I recently purchased a 1987 wellcraft 250 at an auction in Maryland and am trying to first determine the model (sportsman vs coastal) and then acquire manuals. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated, thank you!

First time user, and a good site for information. My 2005 Wellcraft 252 Coastal gathers water in the front storage compartment after heavy rain. I'm talking 20 liters. I have checked the seals on the side windows, and observed the hatch inside while a hose was sprayed on the outside, but didn't see any apparent leakage. My next thoughts were to sit in the boat during the next rain storm, and see if any water is coming through somewhere. I thought possibly the anchor storage area was getting flooded, and water was running into the compartment from there, but the drain hole is clear, no evidence that's happening. Anyone else getting water into this compartment? Any ideas appreciated, cheers from Perth,Western Australia.

I am restoring a 1973 24' Airslot Weekender. It has a intact Mercruiser 888 stern drive... I need to know what is the most powerful / fuel efficient engine that will match up to this drive for this restoration project. What was the original engine? Should I stick with gas or go diesel? I will be fishing from and cruising with this vessel.
